I'm looking at all the news about BitCoin price fluctuations and it doesn't do well for people's confidence. I wonder what are the alternatives to ensure that prices are more stable? I guess the obvious solution is to tie the value of a virtual currency to a fiat currency or a commodity but that has obvious drawbacks. Are there any other possibilities?

Any help will be apprecited.
